Joy Morris

Founder and Design Director, Pallas Couture

Joy Morris is renowned in the Australian bridal industry with decades of experience in the world of haute couture.

Commencing her fashion career as a trained buyer 35 years ago, she cultivated a love of Parisian haute couture during her many years attending the private showings of the collections from some of the world’s most renowned couture fashion houses in Europe. Acting as a fashion forecaster and colour trend analyst, Joy worked as a strategic buyer with the fashion houses asking her to select key pieces from their collections which would become the basis for their international offerings.

Originally founding Pallas as a high fashion studio, Joy offered the most exclusive and previously unavailable international brands to her discerning clientele, becoming known for her incredible eye and understanding of international trends and original design.

With an in-house patternmaker and seamstress at the studio to offer an additional custom service for her clients, the transition to Pallas Couture was a natural progression, constantly being asked to create her own visionary designs for bridal and evening occasions.

Transforming it into a luxury couture label in 2001, the brand has since grown to become one of Australia’s leading fashion couturiers, with Joy considered a master for creating beautiful gowns for her high profile clientele.

The Brand

World-class and globally revered, Pallas is an ethereal bridal and eveningwear house that personifies grace and splendour. Offering a cohesive balance between classical couture, impeccable tailoring and modern sophistication, and with luxury and fine technique at its core, Pallas masters in the art of couture with intricate gowns that are sculpted perfectly to the silhouette.

Pallas’s Haute Couture gowns are bespoke and avant-garde, with a feminine elegance and alluring sensuality. Showcasing impeccable lines and the drama of hand-appliquéd French lace and beading, collections combine the traditional elements of haute couture with a high-fashion aesthetic.

Pallas Collective encapsulates Pallas’s hallmark opulence, yet with a more relaxed undertone. Designs feature larger lace placement and a more minimalistic construction, resulting in chic, contemporary gowns that are as  accessible as they are captivating. Each gown is meticulously crafted, made using traditional couture techniques, and is customised to suit the bride’s personal style.

The Story

Over two decades, Pallas Couture has built a global reputation for crafting exquisite gowns that are intricate, extravagant and unique.

Led by Founder and Creative Design Director Joy Morris, the Pallas Couture team of skilled artisans are masters in tailoring, cut and patternmaking, and draw on their many decades of experience to redefine the concept of bridal and eveningwear.

The Craft

Each gown is constructed with the utmost precision. Fabrics are draped and pinned to the bodice, and twists and folds are employed to finally achieve the desired effect. Attention to detail is unparalleled with every sequin, bead, embellishment and embroidery delicately placed and sewn with exceptional precision.

Handcrafted in-house using the finest-quality European textiles, including French laces, soft silks and Italian embroideries and appliqués, Pallas collections are defined by meticulous technique and know-how. The result is whimsical designs that evoke a nostalgic elegance with a dramatic edge.

Impeccable craftsmanship is the essence of the house and this is evident from the very first vision to the completed work of art that is a Pallas Couture gown.

The Process

Pallas creates gowns for brides around the world, but the magic takes place at its flagship atelier in Sydney, Australia. Everything from designing and cutting to sewing and hand appliqué comes together with Pallas’ visionary team of fashion designers, pattern makers, seamstresses and couturiers. They work  tirelessly together to create the house’s exquisite gowns.

For brides who live overseas, state-of-the-art technology facilitates virtual design appointments, while international trunk shows in New York and London make the enchanted world of Pallas accessible to all across the globe.

The atelier’s artisans are master couturiers and with Pallas’s meticulous processes, the expert team can create custom gowns to the exact measurements of international brides without them needing to step into the studio.
